Watchdog slows down Twitter again for fake info about Ukraine
MOSCOW, Mar 1 (PRIME) -- The Russian communications service has again slowed down Twitter because of a post with unreliable information about the special military operation in Ukraine and will lift all the limits after removal of the banned materials, the watchdog said on Tuesday in a statement.
“The communications service resumed the measures of slowing down the speed of work of Internet service Twitter on the devices of fixed-line connection on the territory of the Russian Federation because the site distributed unreliable publicly important information about the special military operation in Ukraine,” the authority said.
“The condition of lifting the access limit on mobile devices is full deletion by Twitter of the banned materials.”
Twitter must also end its participation in “information opposition, distribution of fakes and calls to extremism.”
According to the authority, Twitter still contains over 800 materials about which the service has sent some 1,700 requests to erase the illegal information.
Twitter has also failed to obey fully to the law on localization of foreign Internet companies and has not opened a local office or registered a feedback form on its website.
